House 08
Sultan Tipu House
Named for Tipu Sultan, ruler of Mysore.
Named For
Tipu Sultan
Sultan of Mysore in the late eighteenth century, whose long resistance against the East India Company's expansion in southern India ended at Srirangapatna in 1799 — a figure the subcontinent has never quite stopped writing about.
The house takes his name for the sheer refusal to yield: the idea that a boy is measured not by how easy his position is, but by how he defends it when it becomes hard.
